Thou shalt increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side.
Bible Text: Psalm 71:21
It is quite interesting to see how God raises people from nothing to the point of greatness. In Genesis 26, we see an example of this wonderful working of God. There was famine in the land of Gerar . The Lord appeared to Isaac and told him not to leave the land. He obeyed, and dwelt in the land. He also sowed in the land and received a hundred fold that same year. The bible says “and the Lord blessed him. And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great”.
The greatness of God comes to us as we listen and walk in obedience to him. That is the easiest way forward for anyone seeking progress. Greatness also requires the exercise of faith in God, demonstrated by the seeds we sow in our obedience (for to obey is better than sacrifice). However, it is ultimately the blessing of God on our seeds that brings the increase (the blessing of the Lord it maketh rich).
God in his magnanimity is willing and able to bless our seed and make us great in a way that transcends natural limits. And when we have become great, he still wants to increase our greatness. This means that in our greatness, God wants us to continue to listen and faithfully obey him. Isaac did just that and not only did he become very great, but God brought him comfort on every side and deliverance from the Philistines and herdsmen of Gerar who were continually striving with him.
We all need God before and after we become great.
Be encouraged, Jesus loves you.
