He gives power to those who are tired and worn out; he offers strength to the weak. (NLT)
Bible Text: Isaiah 40:29
I remember one day when I was returning home from the office and had to catch a bus. When I got to the bus stop I made several attempts to board the wrong bus. But thank God I eventually got it right and was home to the delight of my wife. Thinking about the incidence latter, I realised I was so exhausted from the hustle and bustle of the day that any bus just looked like the right one. It was simply time for some good quality rest.
The daily activities of life have a way of chipping away at even the most rugged of men. The first sign of fatigue is usually degradation in our sense of judgement. One bible character that perhaps best demonstrates this is Esau. One day Esau arrived home exhausted and hungry from a hunt. His decision – sell his birth right to Jacob for a morsel of cake. His exact words were “… I’m dying of starvation…What good is my birthright to me now?” (NLT). In our walk as Christians we will experience moments of tiredness, there is no doubt about that. But what we should avoid is getting to the point where we start doing irrational things with permanent consequences. Sometimes you may just need physical rest, at others you may need to go away and be alone with God so that he can rejuvenate you. Jesus said “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”(Matthew 11:28). Whatever the case, just recognize when you need a break and take it.
Be encouraged and rest in the Lord.
Be encouraged, Jesus loves you!
